"Measure K" Posted by Gordon on November 4, 2009 at 9:30am
One mans opinion.
Because the city didn’t get its way there may be calculated, retaliatory measures taken to prove to the electorate how wrong and shortsighted they were:
Response time may increase.
We may begin to hear an increasing number of reports of increase in crime.
There may be reports of businesses not... wanting to come to Salinas.
There may be reports of an increase in the deficit, or deficit spiraling out of control.
There may be reports of diminished resources.
There may be reports of an increase in downtime.
There may be reports of overtime wearing out the workforce. (Of course those making the money will be laughing all the way to the bank.)
These reports will increase reaching a crescendo in 2010.A duplicate measure of the same or greater amount, perhaps a 1.5 cent increase will be placed on the ballot and because of the background measures taken to prod the electorate, this time the measure will pass. Practical, conservative ideas are seldom visited in government operations.
I’m afraid we have only gained a reprieve, politics is like playing chess.
Money is power and power is the driving force, it may come under many different names, but like pealing an onion, at the core it is power.
Watch, in 2010, we will revisit this, remember my warning and be prepared to fight back with facts, commonsense and a clear understanding of the issues and background history. Don’t allow yourselves to be hoodwinked and/or lied to.
