With just a few days left in his presidency President Bush can rectify an unjust error and show how compassionate he is.
Do you all remember the two brave border patrol agents named Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean?
Back in in Feb. 17, 2005, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, an illegal Mexican alien was attempting to bring 750 pounds of marijuana across our southern border with Mexico near Fabens, Texas; Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean interceded and attempted to arrest him. He was fired upon and wounded in a place that made sitting down very uncomfortable for him. As a result, these two agents were rewarded for their public service by trying to keep this marijuana, this filth, from coming into this country and hurting our children by being arrested and ending up in solitary confinement in federal prison, serving 11- and 12-year sentences.
In my opinion these two men should have been thanked, instead they got the shaft; and for what? For doing their jobs and protecting us. President Bush will pardon others but seems unwilling to give one compassionate thought to pardoning these two men who have been unjustly punished.
My wife and I voted for President Bush twice, I will thank him for doing what is necessary to keep this country safe from another carried out attack, but I am ashamed that he is apparently going to leave office without doing the right thing and pardoning these two men, not only pardoning them but restoring the pay they would have received. I would even say to restore them to their jobs, but why would they want to return to positions where they have no backing, where if they do their job they face possible prosecution? What kind of effect does what has happened to Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean have on those other agents out there along the border? Do they do their jobs, or out of self preservation, look the other way. Why would anyone want to work for such an agency? Why won’t our President do the right thing?
