New Jail - Credible Land Use - Taxation
Posted 2/27/2010 11:49 AM PST on thecalifornian.com
Please excuse my continued disbelief over this subject, I find it baffling, I find it incomprehensible that politicians in this state, this county and city, regardless of our economic status, continue to pursue burdensome taxation of the public and immoral use of our farmland.
This new jail being talked about is not just going to be handed to the public at no cost. There is no gift to the taxpayers, or future use of the valuable farm land once it’s gone. Then there is the soccer field deal where The City Council approved an agreement to add 42 acres of county land to the current 20-acre facility. Talk about the thoughtless, careless use of our dwindling available land. Our farmland is being eaten up almost as though by a cancer.
I’ve brought this up before and I’ll do it again, why, instead of burdening the public with added taxation and believe me there will be added taxation, backed by flowery rhetoric to hide the obvious by politicians who have no love for anything but the money in our wallets, our bank accounts and checkbooks in the consolidation of their powerbase, why don’t we do something really radical, why don’t we follow the example used in Maricopa County, Arizona by Sheriff Arpaio who puts up army tents for his inmate overflow population? He doesn't allow early release, there is never an overcrowding problem. He doesn't allow for any extras, just the essentials. He also doesn't allow for weight lifting equipment, there is actually respect for the taxpaying public. If the tents are good enough for our soldiers they are more then good enough for the inmate population. This concept also doesn’t create a burden to the taxpayers, consider the difference in cost, army tents and bunks to the building of a new state of the art facility, with all the goodies added in for good measure.
You want credible use for the land, as the mayor states, this is it, for God’s sake use some commonsense. This is a simple, economical but apparently all to complicated answer for tax happy politicians, city or county, to consider..
"It is what it is," said supervisors Chairman Simon Salinas. "We're meeting a state deadline [on the jail]. We've got our backs against the wall."
The council voted 7-0 to approve the cooperative agreement on the jail site.
Forgive me but didn’t the voting public give their answer, as NO, to any added detention facilities in our area???

Sheriff Joe makes sense doesn't he? He's an honest man and doesn't buckle down to anyone. I wish we had someone like him here, but we don't we have spineless PC cowards here.
Our city government is like the Obama regime: oppressive and determined to tax us, using any excuse to do so.
