Good Morning Mark
In regards to your topic this morning with the city, taxes etc. I spoke with the Mayor on the phone about this as well as wrote a piece in the Californian, all some time back. I suggested to the Mayor that he needed to make the area inviting for business by clearing away the landmines, the red tape involved with opening a business and dramatically reduce the taxes which, along with the downed economy, is killing business.
I suggested that he initiate things such as a “Y” rating policy for employees moving from department to department. To initiate a freeze on all pay increases for at least a three year period including cost of living increases. To initiate a 4 day work week, 10 hours a day, for all nonessential personnel and make a 10% pay cut across the board beginning with him.
I also suggested cutting property taxes and the sales tax. I tried to explain to him that by placing money back into the hands of the citizens it would be like turning on the green light at a racetrack, businesses would be clamoring to come here, the money would be flowing, the city coffers would be filling and a balanced budget could be attained and through fiscal responsibility this city would be on its feet and running down the race track within two years, we would be thriving.
The Mayor said I was talking ideas that might pertain to federal policy but not to local, city business.
Mark, the Mayor has no idea what he’s doing, he is promoting everything that pinches off the economy, he is doing just the opposite of what is required overall. All measures mentioned above are required, to do one or two is like a surgeon beginning an operation but never following through, the patient dies.

Great points, Gordon!
I still think you oughta run for city council. I'll vote for you.
