Measure E, Tax, Salinas

Tax Measure

Is it possible the city has been spending more then it takes in? Is it possible there has been
Irresponsible use of taxpayer money? There are businesses that have closed their doors permanently, there are those that have moved completely out of this insanely run state to such areas as Oregon and Texas to take up residence in a more favorable business (friendly) environment. The fisca...l condition here is catamount to a 2nd. Term under BO. Jobs are leaving by the thousands. For those that are left doesn’t it make sense to make the area inviting to them? To provide them a one-up on other cities that are plying for them to set up shop? The problem here, in my opinion, is spending. We have always had Mayors and City Councils crying the blues and trying to beguile the public into siding with them to bring on a new tax or in this case to make an existing tax go on into perpetuity and place its removal on the backs of the voters just as it is on the backs of the voters to bear it.

There is no understanding how there could be even 50 people who are that excited about paying over more of their money in taxes. Apparently for these people there is no tax they do not love, they are either very well off, doing well in their chosen field and somehow still have throw away money or personally have something to gain from such perpetuity or are politically and economically ignorant.

There is just no understanding, in the light of the cold, hard facts of reality why the Chamber of Commerce would back such a measure. Could it be out of fear that if Obama is re-elected that by 2016 the economy of this country could be so incredibly devastated that a vote to extend this tax measure, in its present form, would be foolishness? Why else be pushing this now, as opposed to its sunset date, if not out of fear? We all are aware of the 6 trillion in added debt Obama has placed on us, more then all Presidents put together since George Washington, and he did this in less then 4 years; can you imagine where we will be in another 4 years when our current indebtedness has already reached our GNP? Talk about Greece? We’ll be Greece many times over under this Marxist who has already stolen our children’s inheritance, their heritage for a happy and successful future. Yes, they know it’s now or possibly never, to hell with the electorate as long as the city continues to get theirs.

I remember, not that long ago when a certain lady mayor under similar and I believe perpetuating circumstances was trying to humiliate the public into voting for a tax measure for the libraries, then the police, then the fire department and so on it went and to enhance her methodology on an unsuspecting public she went around with a coffee can to her meetings, as though for handouts for the General Fund, hey, her chicanery actually worked, she was an adapt performer, so much so she has been able to continue to hoodwink the still unsuspecting public to not only propelling her into a state office but to keep her there in spite of her lack of credible credentials to be there.

“Honestly, given all the good this sales tax does for our community, I am a little surprised that anyone would be opposed to it. That said, we have to educate and remind people about it.” REALLY, a great segue from reality to great expectations, all balanced on the backs of an increasingly financially exhausted electorate.

Has anybody ever thought of a reduction instead of an increase and that it might actually go further? We can not bear any further tax burden, we can not sustain what we have. I know one mayoral candidate brought up adding 10 police a year until we reached a hundred more then we currently have, well that sounds great until you start adding up the added costs, the vehicles, computers, uniforms, training, incredible benefits packages all pushed under the guise of public safety. Well tell me, how many of you can easily sustain what the cost of living is doing to you and your families now? Do you actually want to permanently add the financial screws to your families life and happiness and doing without or have, hopefully just enough to get by, forget the little extras, so the city can continue to grow, have great salaries and benefits packages and enjoy their life financially? Well if the answer is to say yes to the continuing, endless stream of tax measures that flood over us every election period then go ahead and vote YES on this Measure. If you want to see those currently and those to be soon in office begin to use some commonsense, utilize good judgment, show wisdom in their actions with understanding then you need to vote NO.,, Gordon Avery, Sept. 28, 2012
