He Left Her With Nothing

She went to her cupboards,
they were bare,
she looked into her purse,
only a few pennies and nickels,
no money to spare.

The home she lived in, not her own,
rent coming do,
food to buy,
he left her with nothing,
what will she do?

The savings account he had,
given to others,
some to nieces,
some to brothers,
she was left with chad.

The funeral and financial matters,
the so-called pension,
left to a niece to dispose,
dispose she did,
the widow left with indebted letters.

Social Security so needfully sort,
incurred expenses,
no financial support,
medications required, no help in sight,
her emotions in desperation fraught.

Money used up,
cupboards and pantry bare,
enveloped by illness,
he left her with nothing,
what will she do, cry in despair.

Used and abandoned,
death’s embrace inviting,
he left her with nothing,
what will she do? Who is to care?
Only God’s mercy and love, there is nothing to compare.
