Escaping an Invisible, Chainless Slavery
Escaping an Invisible, Chainless Slavery!
By A.J. Cameron Monday, December 5, 2011
While the OWS idiocy is ebbing, we are still under attack from those within our borders and our government who seek our demise. Due to both parents having served in WWII, I grew up realizing how damning Communism, Fascism, Marxism and Socialism are on the masses of those burdened and restricted under these ‘isms.’
Living through the days of bomb shelters and the Cold War, I never thought American citizens would seriously seek to introduce any of these ‘isms’ within the U. S., but there are those who are working ever more openly towards that end. When are patriots going to realize that many of those in power seek to impose slavery upon the producers and the lemming masses, an invisible, chainless slavery?
These ‘isms’ are promoted as systems of sharing, when they are actually systems of stealing. With our election system offering the stability of returning the unstable to office, many of the unstable begin to see themselves above those they take an oath to serve. Self-appointed, self-serving despots steal people’s money via an insane and punitive tax system that rewards the despots who impose onerous legislation and the benefactors of these despots. The despots inflict policies designed to exert control over those they boast to serve. As the despots misuse the masses’ money and manipulate their choices, people’s freedoms, based upon finances and choices, are stolen. Because these ‘isms’ supersede religious faith, traditional, faith-based morals are attacked, even outlawed, extinguishing faith and hope. Ultimately, the gates of Hell are opened, and Satan is able to sweep in to steal people’s souls? Isn’t this his all-consuming goal?
The despots of these ‘isms’ do not exist in a vacuum. Just as the mob has its made-men/button-men, the tyrants amongst us who are imposing their form of tyranny have their lieutenants who pluck the malleable, low hanging, malcontent and uniformed fruits of society who buy into their fraud and lies. There is always just enough truth embedded within their fraud and lies to attract those seeking something for nothing. Social justice is an example of this form of deceit, and many religions have bought into the lies promoted through social justice. The malcontents aren’t willing to act for themselves, so they follow the devious tyrants who use them for their own selfish ends. In reality, invisible chains hold back all but those who make and impose draconian laws, similar to the legal lawlessness under which we are now living!
American Socialist/Communist reality rely upon the naïveté of the masses
Additionally, the despots of the emerging American Socialist/Communist reality rely upon the naïveté of the masses who are too busy pursuing their individual lives to realize what is being done to usurp our freedoms, both openly and clandestinely. Many do not believe what is happening, but more importantly, many don’t want to know what is happening. They don’t want to be forced into re-prioritizing their daily actions, so it is easier to ignore, even run from, reality. These will be the loudest whiners, if the tyrants amongst us successfully subvert our Constitution and steal our God-given freedoms.
And there is a special enmity reserved for those in the QE media who prop up the lies and fraud pushed by the tyrants amongst us. They have devolved into ‘gangster ’ganda gossips’ who have abdicated their responsibility of informing the public of a government that is frightfully out of control.
If these ‘isms’ were so beneficial for the masses wherever they have been imposed, these countries should be magnets for the malcontents of the world. When has there been a mass migration to Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, China, etc.? How many generations removed are we from WWII and the many sacrifices of so many to save the world from the advancement of the enslaving ‘isms?’ What has been (and is being) taught within our educational system that fosters the acceptance of the imposition of an invisible, chainless slavery within the borders of the free and the brave?
Capitalism does not force the masses into a form of dehumanizing, chainless slavery
Capitalism is far from a perfect system, and there are cheaters in every system, but it is the one ‘ism’ that does not force the masses into a form of dehumanizing, chainless slavery. It is true that within the capitalist system, the rich get richer. They move about within the same circles, they have access to expertise, and they have the money to make mistakes and rebound that the average person does not have. The rich should not be under attack within the capitalist system; they should be studied for their success and engaged for their expertise. Only capitalism allows people from all levels of society to pursue a vision and a dream with resolve to improve their stations in life, and the overall quality of life of society, because it is the only ‘ism’ that fosters an environment for invention and innovation from throughout society.
We are one election away from losing the greatest gift our Creator has given mankind in the form of governance as a way of fostering personal and societal growth. As a system of governance based upon Judeo-Christian morals and ethics, our country has become the envy of the world. Why are we abandoning what has given us the opportunity to enjoy financial and spiritual growth? If we are a true, two-party political system, the GOP must offer candidates for political office who are polar-opposites of the Democrats. Otherwise, the walls built at our borders will be to imprison citizens seeking asylum beyond our borders, not protecting our borders from those who seek to enter our country illegally. New Year’s Day is a Holy Day within the Catholic faith because it is a day for spiritual renewal, looking forward. 2012 provides us the opportunity for genuine renewal to re-engage with God! Let’s make it a truly Happy New Year on November 6, 2012, by electing servant leaders to public office, blunting the Progressive blitzkrieg, and leading to an even happier, more prosperous and thankful New Year in 2013!

What Are We Paying Obama For? And Can It Get Worse?by Thomas Del Beccaro
It’s simply hard to imagine this passes for a Presidency. At what point does he become simply too much for the senses? Sure we have had some interesting and bad Presidents before – recently in fact. Nixon changed our view of the Presidency for the worse. Carter was beyond ineffectual. Bush 41 broke a huge promise. Clinton wagged his finger while lying – and a bit more than that. But this President is truly something and it’s not just the facts that are bad – it’s his excuses and manners that make this Presidency so incredibly bad.
Let us count the ways:
A. The Economics.
This list is well known by now – but that doesn’t mean it is highlighted by the Media as it would be of a Republican was president.
1.Unemployment at 9% for a historically long time. According to Obama he inherited this mess and blames President Bush and ATMs. Yes Obama believes automation, like ATMs, is to blame – as if such automations like automobiles (accounting for nearly 20% of our economy) and computers (creating employers like EBAY and Microsoft) are the cause of our unemployment. Beyond that, Obama joked that he was wrong about “shovel ready” projects, created the “Saved” jobs category out of thin air, and claimed that the stimulus bill would prevent unemployment from going above 8%. What’s missing, of course, is a plan to lower unemployment – let alone actually lower unemployment.
2.Gas Prices. They are currently 85% higher than when he took office. He shut down our Gulf oil production for ideological not actual reasons and delayed a Canadian pipeline for political reasons. When Bush 43 saw high gas prices, the Media told him to go his friends in the Middle East to ask them to raise production. Since Obama wanted $5 gasoline all along, he has no plan to lower energy prices and the Media doesn’t harp on the issue. Meanwhile the economy is hurt badly because of the higher costs of energy that reduce purchasing power and hurt employers everywhere.
3.Foreclosure/Home Mortgage Crisis. This is the one part of the economy that actually is in a crisis that is “the worst since the Great Depression” – a phrase Obama is fond of overusing. Obama has continued the policy of bailing out the Banks for foreclosure related losses, encouraged Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailouts instead of reforming them and now he has sued the very Banks he bailed out because of their foreclosure practices – and no, there is no plan in sight let alone true relief.
4.The Deficit. It has quadrupled under Obama. Yet he says inherited it – and rather than change it, spending has actually gone up each of this 3 years. Obama’s solution: have other people come up with a plan – he was traveling or on vacation. When it failed, he said he knew it would fail. So Chris Christie rightfully asks: What are we paying Obama for?
B. Foreign Policy.
1.Missiles. In his first year, Obama scrapped a missile system – thereby telling Poland that years of such work and friendship with the US are not all that important. It also told many others the same thing.
2.Libya. We are not at war – just facilitating war. What was the national security principle at stake? The Assassination principle? How very Nobel.
3.Egypt. For years Mubarak was a reliable partner that kept peace with Israel. He was kicked to the curb under Obama and Egypt has descended into chaos.
4.Israel. I don’t quite know how much more you can disrespect an ally. Obama, however, managed to get caught doing what we already suspected – bad mouthing an allied leader. If that doesn’t make you wonder what other leaders think he is doing – this combined list should.
5.U.S. Image Abroad. Remember when Obama said Bush ruined our image abroad? Yet today effigies of Obama are hung or burned across the Middle East and Europe has lost faith. Wouldn’t you think of Nobel Peace prize would buy you more credibility than that?
All of which brings us to the Presidential meter. Just how Presidential has he been? I remember when Reagan would never take his jacket off in the Oval Office out of respect. FDR has serious fireside chats. Washington rode on a white horse.
As for Obama:
He just played golf with his friend who was busted in a prostitution sting. How very Presidential. We hear he did so out of loyalty. Nice.
As for his other loyalties, he bought a house from a criminal to be, Tony Rezko. Obama got a great deal to boot. At least is suffering from a foreclosure crisis – and let us not forget that he had a proud terrorist, Bill Ayers, raise money for him.
With friends like that, it kind of makes you miss Bebe Rebozo doesn’t it?
Of course, we can’t forget the wonderful Reverend Wright – someone he was loyal enough to attend his “church” for 20 years but not loyal enough to really listen to him.
Obama doesn’t much listen to the American people either. How else do you push ObamaCare down voters’ throats and wind up with 26 states suing and others all but nullifying the legislation?
All of which brings me to the final point:
Obama’s Miserable Consensus Building.
While some Presidents are known for courageous and tough stands that pay dividends in the years to come, most all of them are judged, at some level, by whether their coalition of supporters is larger after they take office then before. We have already seen what the World has thought of Obama. We know that, at home, his 2008 coalition is gone and it is not just because of the bad economy.
Obama has been picking fights with the American electorate from day one. The Stimulus Bill cleaved off his Republican support and fostered the Tea Party – which he then vilified on the way to ObamaCare. In between, he tried to legislative enact Cap & Trade, lost and crammed that down America through the EPA. He wanted to “prosecute” 911 enemy combatants in a New York court room and yielded only when even liberal New York said no.
Since then, Obama has engaged in class warfare over taxes in such a way as to only convince Americans he missed economics class.
In the final analysis, of President’s seeking re-election, two basic questions are asked:
(1) Is the Country better off? and,
(2) Have you brought the Country closer together?
In fact, Obama has not and, quite frankly, it hasn’t been pretty watching it either.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!
This week we celebrate a uniquely American holiday – Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving became a festival celebrated annually across New England but did not spread to all the colonies until the American Revolution, when the Continental Congress called for official days of thanksgiving and prayer.
The first federal Thanksgiving proclamation was issued by President George Washington in 1789. Why would he issue that proclamation? He explained:

"It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor."
Over the next 80 years, national thanksgiving celebrations occurred only sporadically, although they were still celebrated annually across New England.
Beginning in the 1840s, Sarah Hale, a mother of five children and an editor of Godey’s Lady’s Book persistently campaigned for an established national Thanksgiving – such as in this editorial from 1852:

"The American people have two peculiar festivals, each connected with their history and therefore of great importance in giving power and distinctness to their nationality. The Fourth of July Is the exponent of independence and civil freedom. Thanksgiving Day is the national pledge of Christian faith in God, acknowledging Him as the dispenser of blessings. These two festivals should be joyfully and universally observed throughout our whole country, and thus incorporated in our habits of thought as inseparable from American life."
She faithfully contacted various presidents with that request. Finally, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a national Thanksgiving proclamation in response to her letter to him.

Subsequent presidents followed Lincoln’s example in setting aside a day of Thanksgiving, but it was not until 1941 that Congress passed a law establishing Thanksgiving as an official national holiday to be celebrated every year on the Fourth Thursday in November.
As you celebrate Thanksgiving this year with your family and friends, take time to reflect on all the reasons you have to be truly thankful – take time to thank God and specifically recall to Him some of His many blessings on us. You might even outline your prayer to Him by the four items George Washington mentioned in America’s original federal Thanksgiving proclamation:
"Acknowledge the providence of Almighty God;
Obey His will;
Be grateful for His benefits; and
Humbly implore His protection and favor."

Halloween
At 700 PM I went out and looked up and down the streets and there were just a few homes with their lights on. I was taken back to the 70’s and 80’s when my wife and I took our son’s out all dressed up in their costumes which their mother created. Then I thought even further back to the 50’s when I was out “trick or treating.” The streets were full kids running, full of excitement, talking and laughing, having a great time. Last night our first scary little visitors came at 645 PM, the last at 830 PM. They were dressed from little angels to a military sniper escorted by his father in uniform. The total was a whopping 53.
I realize it’s not the same world as back then but must we flush ALL our traditions? Today’s parents have forgotten what it was like to be a child and/or are to damn cheap to buy a couple of large bags of candy at Costco to pass out, I give three to a child. A few hours one night out of the year should not be that difficult to turn on your lights and bring happiness to children.

Muslims Vs. Catholic Institution - The Catholic University of America

Home of Catholic scholars: Two Popes have visited the university
Mail Online - UK, Monday, Oct. 31, 2011
What did these miserable fools think they were going to find at such an institution? Pictures of Goldilocks and the three bears? No. I think not. They knew exactly what they would find. This is their corrupt way of continuing where 9/11 left off by bringing down a major religious landmark thereby creating repercussions throughout the entire country.

'Our human rights have been violated': Muslim students accuse Catholic University in 60-page dossier
No prayer rooms provided without Christian symbols
Cross of Jesus 'looks down' on them
By Daily Mail Reporter

Muslim students at the renowned Catholic University have complained their human rights have been violated by the college.
They have accused education chiefs of banning them from forming a Muslim student group and failing to provide prayer rooms without Christian symbols.
The Office of Human Rights is investigating 60 pages of allegations against the private university in Washington DC.
The students claim they are surrounded by 'a wooden crucifix, paintings of Jesus, pictures of priests and theologians which many Muslim students find inappropriate.'
The complaint, launched by John Banzhaf, an attorney and professor at George Washington University Law School, also claimed female students were being discriminated against.
Banzhaf has been involved in a previous case against the school involving same-sex residence halls. The latest investigation could take six months to complete.
He claimed some Muslim students were particularly offended because they had to meditate overlooked by the cathedral that looms over the entire campus – the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
He told Fox News: “It shouldn’t be too difficult to set aside a small room where Muslims can pray without having to stare up and be looked down upon by a cross of Jesus.
“They do have to pray five times a day and to be sitting there trying to do Muslim prayers with a big cross looking down or a picture of Jesus or a picture of the Pope is not very conductive to their religion.'
A spokesman for the university claimed they had not received any complaint from the students.
Victor Nakas, associate vice president for public affairs, told the TV station that its Catholic traditions meant it welcomed students from other faiths.
No students had registered complaints about the exercise of their religions on the campus, he said.
NEIGBOURHOOD THEY CALL 'LITTLE ROME'
The university's campus lies within Washington DC's Brookland neighbourhood, known as 'Little Rome'.
It contains 60 Catholic institutions, including Trinity Washington University and the Dominican House of Studies.
The university has been visited twice by reigning Pontiffs. Pope John Paul II visited on October 7, 1979 then Pope Benedict XVI came in 2008.
He spoke at the campus's Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center and gave an address on Catholic education and academic freedom.
In a 2010, university president John Garvey admitted they do not set aside prayer rooms for Muslim students.
He said: “We make classrooms available, or our chapels are places where they can pray.
'We don’t offer Halal meat, although there are always meals that conform to Halal regulations, that allow students to do what they want.'
Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society, an organization which promotes Catholic identity among Catholic schools, accused Banzhaf of turning civil rights 'on its head'.
He told Fox: “One wouldn’t expect a Jewish institution to be responsible for providing liturgical opportunities for other faiths and I wouldn’t expect a Catholic institution to do that.

If I Were a Liberal...
Posted 10/26/2011 ET
Updated 10/26/2011 ET
If I were a liberal, I would have spent the last week in shock that a Democratic audience in Flint, Mich., cheered Vice President Joe Biden's description of a policeman being killed. (And if I were a liberal desperately striving to keep my job on MSNBC, I'd say the Democrats looked "hot and horny" for dead cops -- as Chris Matthews said of a Republican audience that cheered for the death penalty.)
Biden's audience whooped and applauded last week in Flint when he said that without Obama's jobs bill, police will be "outgunned and outmanned." (Wild applause!)
I suppose liberals would claim they were applauding because they believe Obama's jobs bill will prevent these murders. Which reminds me: Republicans believe the death penalty prevents murders!
Which belief bears more relationship to reality?
In a case I have previously mentioned, Kenneth McDuff was released from death row soon after the Supreme Court overturned the death penalty in 1972 and went on to murder more than a dozen people.
William Jordan and Anthony Prevatte were sentenced to death in 1974 for abducting a teacher, murdering him and stealing his car. They came under suspicion when they were caught throwing the murder weapon from the stolen vehicle in a high-speed car chase with the cops and because they were in possession of the dead man's wallet, briefcase and watch.
The Georgia Supreme Court overturned their capital sentences in an opinion by Robert H. Hall, who was appointed by Gov. Jimmy Carter.
Hall said that the death sentences had to be set aside on the idiotic grounds that the jurors had overheard the prosecutor say that the judge and state supreme court would have the opportunity to review a death sentence, which might have caused them to take their sentencing role less seriously.
(If the facts had been the reverse, the court would have overturned the death sentences on the grounds that the jurors did not take their sentencing decision seriously, under the misapprehension that no judge or court would second-guess them.)
Prevatte was later released from "life in prison" and proceeded to murder his girlfriend. Jordan escaped and has never been found.
As president, Carter appointed Hall to a federal district court.
Darryl Kemp was sentenced to death in California in 1960 for the rape and murder of Marjorie Hipperson and also convicted for raping two other women. But he sat on death row long enough -- 12 years -- for the death penalty to be declared unconstitutional. He was paroled five years later and, within four months, had raped and murdered Armida Wiltsey, a 40-year-old wife and mother.
Kemp wasn't caught at the time, so he spent the next quarter-century raping (and probably murdering) a string of women. In 2002, his DNA was matched to blood found on the fingernails of Wiltsey's dead body. Although Kemp was serving a "life sentence" for rape in a Texas prison, he was months away from being paroled when he was brought back to California for the murder of Wiltsey.
His attorney argued that he was too old for the death penalty. He lost that argument, and in 2009, Kemp was again given a capital sentence. He now sits on death row, perhaps long enough for the death penalty to be declared unconstitutional again, so he can be released to commit more rapes and murders.
Dozens and dozens of prisoners released from death row have gone on to murder again. No one knows exactly how many, but it's a lot more than the number of innocent men who have been executed in America, which, at least since 1950, is zero.
What is liberals' evidence that there will be more rapes and murders if Obama's jobs bill doesn't pass? Biden claims that, without it, there won't be enough cops to interrupt a woman being raped in her own home -- which would be an amazing bit of police work/psychic talent, if it had ever happened. (That's why Americans like guns, liberals.)
Obama's jobs bill tackles the problem of rape and murder by giving the states $30 billion ... for public school teachers.
Only $5 billion is even allotted to the police, but all we keep hearing about are the rapes and murders that Democrats are suddenly against (as long as being "against" rape and murder means funding public school teachers and not imprisoning or executing rapists and murderers).
Finally, did Flint use any money from Obama's last trillion-dollar stimulus bill to hire more police in order to prevent rape and murder? No, Flint spent its $2.2 million from the first stimulus bill on buying two electric buses.
Even if what Flint really needed was buses and not cops, for $2.2 million, the city could have bought seven brand-new diesel buses and had $100,000 left over for streetlights.
Rather than reducing the rate of rape and murder, blowing money on "green" buses is likely to increase crime, since people will be forced to spend a lot more time waiting at bus stops for those two buses.
It's going to be a long wait: The "green" buses were never delivered because the company went out of business -- despite a $1.6 million loan from the American taxpayer.
But if I were a liberal, I wouldn't acknowledge these facts, or any facts. I would close my eyes, cover my ears, demand that MSNBC fire Pat Buchanan and the FCC pull the plug on Fox, and pretend to believe that taxpayer-funded "green" projects and an ever-increasing supply of public school teachers were the only things that separated us from Armageddon.

The Aisle Seat - Soldier in Flight
Just before takeoff, a U.S. Soldier sat down in the aisle seat. After takeoff the soldier kicked his shoes off, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said 'I need to get up and get a coke.'
'Don't get up,' said the soldier 'I'm in the aisle seat, 'I'll get it for you.'
As soon as he left one of the Arabs picked up the soldier’s shoe and spat in it. When the soldier returned with the coke, the other Arab said, 'That looks good. I'd really like one too.'
Again, the soldier obligingly went to fetch it.
While he was gone the other Arab picked up the soldier other shoe and spat in it. When the soldier returned, they all sat back and enjoyed the flight.
As the plane was landing, the soldier slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened. He leaned over and asked his Arab neighbors, 'Why does it have to be this way?'
'How long must this go on? This fighting between our nations? This hatred? This animosity? This spitting in shoes and pissing in cokes?'

Have We Forgotten How to Raise Boys Into Men?

By William J. Bennett
Published October 14, 2011
FoxNews.comRead more: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/10/14/have-forgotten-how-to-raise-boys-into-men/#ixzz1atxNNxtW
Too many boys and men waste time in pointless and soulless activities, unmindful of their responsibilities, uncaring in their pursuits. Have we forgotten how to raise men, how to lead our boys into manhood?
Someone once characterized the two essential questions Plato posed as: Who teaches the children, and what do we teach them? When the older generation fails to properly teach the younger males (and females) coming behind them, trouble surely follows.
Today, for the first time in history, women are better educated, more ambitious, and arguably more successful than men. Society has rightly celebrated the ascension of women. We said, “You go, girl” and they went. We praise the rise of women but what will we do about what appears to be the very real decline of men?
The data shows that there is trouble with men today. In 1970, men earned 60% of all college degrees. In 1980, the figure fell to 50%, by 2006 it was 43%. Women now surpass men in college degrees by almost three to two. Women's earnings grew 44% from 1970 to 2007, compared with 6% growth for men. In 1950, five percent of men at the prime working age were unemployed. Today twenty percent are not working, the highest ever recorded.
Perhaps most worrisome are the cultural indicators. Men are more distant from a family or their children then they have ever been. The out of wedlock birthrate is over forty percent in America. In 1960, only 11% of children in the U.S. lived apart from their fathers. In 2010, that share had risen to 27%. Men are also less religious than ever before. According to Gallup polling, 39% of men reported attending church regularly in 2010, compared to 47% of women.
But you don’t need numbers. Just ask young women about men today, and you’re likely to hear how many believe their males counterparts are more like male children, refusing to grow up. Too many young women today are asking, “Where are the good single men?” Contemporary men exhibit a maturity deficit, and are in danger of falling further behind the more well adjusted women of today.
And so in our time especially there is a need for guidance, and the important role of men for boys is a particularly acute need. Of course there are successes. Every day great boys are raised to be great men, but there are other cases as well.
Confusions regarding manhood abound, including confusion about a proper understanding of virility. Fathers are missing from boys’ lives in devastatingly high numbers. Children are exposed to a dizzying array of cultural signals about what it means to be a man, signals both good and bad. Our society is moving forward so rapidly that it has forgotten much good from the past. And women are beginning to take the place of men in many ways.
So what’s the problem? Increasingly, the messages to boys about what it means to be a man are confusing. They mistake the machismo of the street gangs for courage. They fill the vacancy left by missing fathers with video games, television, and music. Gay culture, with its flamboyant display, often challenges traditional masculinity. Hollywood films glorify male characters who refuse to grow up. Too many men today treat women like toys, easily discarded when things get complicated. Through all these different and conflicting signals, our boys must decipher what it means to be a man, and for many of them it is harder to figure out.
We need to fight back against this culture and send our boys and young men a clear and achievable message of what it means to be a man. The founding virtues – industriousness, marriage, and religion, are still the basis for male empowerment and achievement. It may be time to say to a number of our young men, “Get off the video games five hours a day, pull yourself together, get a challenging job, and get married.” It’s time to bring back men.

Ray: A Life Underwater
Uploaded by dannycookeUK on Aug 19, 2011
A rogue with an eye for salvage - and the ladies - Ray: A Life Underwater is an affectionate portrait of one man's deep sea diving career, told through his extraordinary collection of marine artefacts.
Like a modern-day pirate, 75--year-old Ray Ives has been scouring the seabed for treasure his whole life.
The former commercial diver has plundered the deep for over fifty years, bringing to the surface anything that glittered -- even gold.
In a shipping container near the water, Ray tends his museum of cannon, bottles, bells, swords, portholes and diving gear.
He still takes to the water in a 1900s diving suit.

The History of 'APRONS'

Remember making an apron in Home Ec.? Read below:
The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think our kids
know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses, and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing
hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.
And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow,
bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.
REMEMBER:
Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love.

Congress Ignored Perils of Lifting Military's Gay Ban
Posted 09/20/2011 ET
Updated 09/20/2011 ET
Sept. 20 is an important day for gay activists because it marks the official repeal of the military’s 1993 homosexual exclusion law (10 U.S.C. § 654). This happened because the gay-beholden Democrats held power and not because there was a shred of evidence repeal would improve the armed forces. Now our war-weary, all-volunteer military must cope with the consequences of that decision.
Those consequences could be significant, but the American public has no clue, because the 111th Democrat-controlled Congress repealed the ban in a "lame-duck” session without hearing a single dissenting view. And President Obama hid behind the cover of a politically inspired Pentagon report marred by poor research and improper activities meant to mislead Congress.
President Obama used his 2010 State of the Union address to call for repeal of the homosexual exclusion law. The following week, then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates testified, “We have received our orders,” and subsequently he launched a review to examine the “issues associated with repeal of the law.” Gates’ review never considered whether lifting the ban was right, but only on mitigating the consequences.
That review included a problem-plagued survey that failed to ask critical questions such as, “Do you favor lifting the homosexual ban?” and it used non-random sampling. Then it biased the results to support Obama’s repeal agenda.
The Pentagon Inspector General (IG) exposed the review’s politically inspired bias. Last November, the Washington Post published leaked information from the Pentagon’s review claiming 70% of the military would have no problem serving with open homosexuals. The IG said in an April 2011 report that the leak was meant “to gain momentum in support of a legislative change during the ‘lame duck’ session of Congress following the Nov. 2, 2010, elections.”
Not surprisingly the Obama Pentagon failed to correct the unauthorized and misleading report, which was cited in Congress as fact. The same survey data (question 68a of the July 2010 Pentagon poll) that was used to generate the 70% report can be restated to support a very different conclusion: In fact 62% of the military predicted at least some negative effects from repeal, while only 18% predicted positive effects.
Congress ignored many report flaws, including the following:
The Pentagon report admits “the majority of views expressed in [140 focus group sessions] were against repeal of the current policy.”
It based its “no-risk” assessment of open homosexuality for military effectiveness on a panel of 11 unidentified, nonscientific personnel.
It dismissed 67% negative views expressed by combatants by suggesting their lack of service with homosexuals feeds the negativity.
Congress has the constitutional responsibility to set military personnel policy (Article I, Section 8) and therefore deserves the blame for any adverse consequences associated with lifting the ban. Consider six possible consequences.
First, repeal created a “precedent-setting” legal quagmire for the military. William Gregor, a professor at the School of Advanced Military Studies, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., wrote in the military journal Parameters that the repealed statute “contained important military policy that extends well beyond the narrow issue of homosexual eligibility.” Specifically, six of the repealed law’s findings “defined the principles that underlie the established system of military justice and order.” Their absence creates a “litigious period of indiscipline” whereby issues such as recruitment are subject to legal challenge and reinterpretation, for example, excluding candidates for personal behaviors such as drug abuse.
Second, repeal embraces a category of people associated with high rates of a deadly sexually transmitted virus. This potentially creates higher health care costs and hurts morale.
The Pentagon admits an increase in homosexuals could increase the number of personnel who are “men who have sex with men,” and that group has the highest known risk of HIV/AIDS. But the Pentagon contends incidents of HIV/AIDS will be minimal because of regular blood testing.
But in spite of testing, the military already has battalions' worth of HIV/AIDS-infected personnel, and many contracted the virus via homosexual sex. These thousands are nondeployable, soak up hundreds of millions of dollars in medical costs annually, and must be replaced overseas by healthy troops, a morale-busting factor.
Third, the Pentagon report dismisses heterosexual privacy concerns by arguing “gay men have learned to avoid making heterosexuals feel uncomfortable.” That is why troops will not be segregated based on sexual orientation, and besides, states the report, most privacy concerns are based on “misperceptions and stereotypes.”
It is paradoxical that few people give gender segregation a second thought due to privacy and modesty concerns, but those same people expect the military to force heterosexuals to share facilities with homosexuals. But call for co-ed sleeping and bathing facilities and the objections are loud. Who says homosexuals are any more perfect than anyone else?
Fourth, the Pentagon admits “a large number of service members raise religious and moral objections to homosexuality.” Specifically, many troops said repeal “might limit their individual freedom of expression and free exercise of religion, or require them to change their personal beliefs about the morality of homosexuality.” The Pentagon dismisses that view at its peril.
Chaplains expressed some of the most intense and sharpest views. The Pentagon promises chaplains “will not be required to perform a religious role … if doing so would be in variance with the tenets or practices of their faith.” What about chaplains’ objections to gay marriage?
This April, the chief of naval chaplains issued guidance allowing chaplains to conduct same-sex marriages in some states, but outrage temporarily sidelined that guidance. Later the Navy said it would allow chaplains to perform gay marriages where it is legal. What might happen to chaplains that preach or counsel that marriage is only between one man and one woman?
Or for that matter, what might happen to chaplains who object to having a homosexual chaplain’s assistant or hiring a gay youth worker? Religious-based objections are important among the military’s large faith community.
Fifth, Congress must monitor the impact of open homosexuality for unit effectiveness and readiness. Social scientists should measure homosexuality’s impact on effectiveness factors such as bonding and morale. The impact on readiness factors such as recruiting and retention is especially important to an all-volunteer force.
The Pentagon will soon see whether repeal has any effect on the propensity of young people to enlist. In fact, the Rand Corporation’s report on homosexuality warned military recruiting could decline7% because of repeal, and the Pentagon admits recruiting is getting harder because three-fourths of American youth fail to qualify.
Retention is a critical readiness factor. Thirteen per cent of current service members told the Pentagon’s working group repeal would shorten their future service, and another 11% said they will consider leaving sooner than planned. Congress must acknowledge that 24% of the force (341,000 personnel) is a lot of volunteers to ignore.
Finally, the Pentagon claims “strong leadership” will successfully mitigate the problems associated with lifting the ban. But “strong leadership” has yet to “solve” other social phenomena, including sexual assault. Why should Congress believe the Pentagon can do any better with homosexuality?
The Pentagon’s 2011 annual report on sexual assault exposes a massive leadership failure. Only 13.5% of total assaults are reported, says the Pentagon, because service members are “uncomfortable” with reporting or “fear reprisal.” Besides, the report indicates male victims of sexual assault vary from 6% to 20% of all incidents across the services. How will open homosexuality impact this problem?
The gay community might celebrate Sept. 20, but this date marks a major failure in Congress’ oversight of the military. It must now closely monitor the consequences associated with repeal to protect our volunteer force and quickly respond as the inevitable problems occur.
